Five BayBears Named All-Stars

June 27, 2007 - Southern League (SL1)
Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, AL - Five members of the 2007 BayBears have been named South Division All-Stars for the Southern League All-Star Game on Monday, July 9th at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi.

WILKIN CASTILLO - CATCHER - Castillo has become one of the BayBears hottest hitters, with his average rising to .316 after Tuesday's game against West Tenn. The versatile Castillo has also played third base, shortstop and second base for the BayBears this year.

EMILIO BONIFACIO - SHORTSTOP - The BayBears leadoff hitter has 24 stolen bases, good for second in the Southern league. Bonifacio is one of three BayBears on the Diamondbacks Major League 40-man roster and has hit .277 through the first 76 games.

JAVIER BRITO - FIRST BASE - In his first season in Double-A, Brito has hit .326 through 70 games, only behind Tennessee's Josh Kroeger for the league lead. The Venezuelan born Brito will be the starting first baseman for the South Division team in the All-Star Game.

MATT GREEN - PITCHER - Green is the only pitcher representing the BayBears at the All-Star Game. The former second round pick out of Louisiana-Monroe has gone 7-3 with a 3.71 ERA through his first 16 Double-A starts.

JUSTIN UPTON - OUTFIELD - Upton was voted a Southern League All-Star, but because of his selection to play in Major League Baseball's Futures Game, Upton will not play in the Southern League All-Star Game. Although playing in just 42 games since a call up from Single-A, Upton leads the team with eight home runs.

The BayBears remain home at Hank Aaron Stadium through Friday, June 29th against West Tenn. To order tickets to BayBears baseball, or to the games between Team USA and Team China on July 22nd and July 24th, call 251-479-2327, or log onto mobilebaybears.com.
