Four Mudcats Named To All-Star Team

Zebulon, NC --- Four Carolina Mudcats were named to the North Division All-Star team, the Southern League announced yesterday.

RHPs Gaby Hernandez, Scott Nestor and IFs Lee Mitchell and Chase Lambin were named to the club, which will take on the South Division All-Stars on July 9th in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park. Huntsville hitting coach Sandy Guerrero will manage the North Division squad with Stars manager Don Money coaching in the Futures Game in San Francisco.

The teams were voted on by Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and members of the print media.

Through Monday's game, Mitchell was second on the team in hitting with a .277 batting average, while leading the club in HR (11) and RBI (40). Lambin was third on the club in batting average (.276), second in HR (8) and RBI (30).

Hernandez has a 3-7 record, but an ERA of 3.75, pitching a staff-high 86 2/3 innings and striking out 74, which also is tops on the staff.

Nestor, appearing in 32 games - most in the Southern League - has struck out 51 batters in 40 innings, with a mark of 1-2 with one save and an ERA of 3.83.

The Southern League will announce the starters for the North Division on July 2nd.

Heading into Wednesday night's game with Tennessee, Carolina has 11 games remaining before the All-Star break, which will see the league go dark for three days, July 8th-10th. Carolina will resume the second half in West Tenn against the Diamond Jaxx.
