Montgomery Biscuits News Release

PEARL, Miss. -- Montgomery Biscuits starter Wade Davis earned his first Double-A win at Trustmark Park Tuesday night as the Biscuits (7-2; 42-37) stomped the Mississippi Braves, (4-5; 46-33), 9-5.

Davis (1-0) pitched 5 1/3 innings in his second Biscuits start, striking out seven Braves. He allowed two runs but never trailed, helping the Biscuits back into a first-place tie with the Jacksonville Suns.

A second-inning single by Shaun Clumberland scored John Jaso and put the Biscuits ahead for good. Montgomery put together a 15-hit effort at the plate, scoring seven runs against Mississippi starting pitcher Charlie Morton. The attack included a five-run fourth inning, keyed by a Fernando Perez two-run single and a Reid Brignac two-run double. Morton's start did not survive the inning.

Tampa Bay pitcher Juan Salas became the second player to play in all four years of the club's history by pitching in the eighth inning. Salas is on the comeback trail from a 50-game suspension for testing positive performance-enhancing drugs under Major League Baseball's testing program. Salas walked two and allowed three runs in the inning, registering only one out. He did not show his typical 95-mile-per-hour cutting fastball but instead threw 89-91 without much movement.

Jaso and Perez had three hits in the game. Josh Asanovich, Evan Longoria, Gaby Martinez and Cumberland each had two.

The Biscuits and Braves play the series' fourth game at 7:05 on Wednesday night. Montgomery lefty Jon Barratt (1-5) will oppose Mississippi lefthander Francisely Bueno (4-5).
