McCulloch Again Named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week

Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem Warthogs starting pitcher Kyle McCulloch was recently named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week. It is the second time this month that McCulloch has claimed the honor. The former University of Texas star and first round pick of the Chicago White Sox in the 2006 draft made one start in the past week and picked up the win in a stellar performance.

In his only start of the week on June 22, McCulloch breezed through the Potomac Nationals lineup, collecting season highs with eight innings pitched and nine strikeouts. He held Potomac hitless until the fifth inning and only surrendered two hits for the game. Winston-Salem has tossed two shutouts this season with McCulloch starting both games for the Warthogs.

For the year, he is 5-5 with a 3.22 ERA and has suffered considerably by a poor Warthogs defense, as McCulloch has been charged with a league high 12 unearned runs. McCulloch won the 2005 NCAA Championship as his Longhorns defeated the University of Florida. He was the starting and winning pitcher in the title clinching game. McCulloch is the only pitcher for the Warthogs to win such honors this season, but does join teammates David Cook and Javier Castillo, who won Offensive Player of the Week honors in consecutive weeks earlier this year.
