Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - For the third time this year a Myrtle Beach Pelican was named the Carolina League Player of The Week, as third baseman Eric Campbell took home the honors after a hot start in the second half. The native of Owensville, Indiana hit .550 (11-20) with two home runs, eight RBI, three stolen bases and a .900 slugging percentage to lead the way for the Pelicans, who took two of three at Salem to begin the second half.

The Pelicans were without the services of Campbell for 31 games during the first half due to a torn ligament in his left thumb. The injury limited Campbell to just 34 games in which he hit .198 with five home runs and 16 RBI. In the second half "Soup" has been an entirely different player, lifting his batting average to .247 with seven homers and 24 RBI thanks to his stellar week.

"This is exactly what we've been waiting for from Eric," said Pelicans Manager Rocket Wheeler. "He's busted out of the gates in the second half and is giving us a big boost in the line-up."

Campbell enters Monday night's game at Lynchburg having recorded five straight multi-hit games, one multi-hit game away from tying the Pelicans franchise record for most consecutive multi-hit games. He also enters tonight with a chance to break the record for most consecutive games with a run scored after scoring at least one run in each of the last eight contests. On Sunday, Campbell drilled two home runs against Lynchburg, in a 10-6 loss, to become just the 17th player in franchise history to smack two homers in the same game.

Campbell joins first baseman Isaiah Ka'aihue (6/4-6/10) and pitcher James Parr (5/14-5/20) as winners of the Carolina League Player/Pitcher of the Week Award.

The Pelicans, led by the reigning Carolina League Player of the Week, take on the Lynchburg Hillcats on Monday evening at 7:05 p.m. in game two of a three-game series at City Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Pelicans return to Coastal Federal Field on Wednesday night for the start of a three-game series against the Potomac Nationals at 7:05 p.m. For tickets to Pelicans baseball please call 843-918-6000, visit the Pelicans box office located at Coastal Federal Field, or visit www.myrtlebeachpelicans.com.
