Miscellaneous Notes
Last Game... The Senators had their mini two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday afternoon as the Binghamton Mets handled the Sens 8-3. Dan Dement continued his recent surge with an inside-the-park home run in the first inning to give the Sens a 1-0 lead. With that hit, he extended his hitting streak to nine games. Frank Diaz hit a two-run home run in the seventh, but it wasn't enough for the Sens. Starter Dan Foli gave up four runs in the second and third innings and the B Mets cruised from there.
Tonight's Game... The Senators and Binghamton Mets finish up their four-game series and season series tonight at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton. They have split their first six games this season, but the Sens have won two of three this series.
Tonight's Starting Pitcher's... The Senators send LH Mike O'Connor to the hill against RH Michael Devaney for Binghamton. O'Connor is making his fourth start for the Senators this season and his second since being officially assigned to the Sens. He went 3-8 with a 4.80 ERA in 21 games, 20 starts last season for the Nationals. He spent all of his 2005 season with Potomac and made the jump to AAA last year, pitching in one game before being promoted to the Nationals. He had arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow in November. He had a sore elbow last season that sidelined him from late July until early September. He was originally selected by the Expos in the 7th round of the 2002 draft. He was the Nationals Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2005 with Potomac going 10-11 with a 3.54 ERA in 26 starts. He made the transition from reliever to starter in 2004 after having made 63 relief appearances in 2002 and 2003. He was second in the Carolina League in strikeouts in 2005 with 158.
Futures Game... Nationals number one prospect and Senators starter Collin Balester was named to the U.S. roster for this season's Future's Game in San Francisco. He becomes the second Senator in as many years to be named to one of the rosters. Last season, former Senators catcher Salomon Manriquez was named to the World Roster.
Disabled Sens... Tony Blanco and Beltran Perez are currently on the Senators disabled list. Perez went on the DL June 2nd with a sore back. Blanco went on the DL on June 19th with a hamstring strain.
