Montreal Steals Point from Timbers in Draw

PORTLAND, Ore. - Midfielder Neil Dombrowski gave the Portland Timbers a late 1-0 lead, but the Montreal Impact was able to answer back moments later as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw on Thursday night at PGE Park. With the draw the Timbers remain unbeaten in six games at home.

The draw allows the Timbers (4-2-3, 15pts) to remain unbeaten at home with a3-0-3 record at PGE Park. Montreal (4-2-5, 17pts) maintains an undefeated record on the road with a record of 2-0-3.

Dombrowski tallied his first professional goal in the 85th minute on a ball played by midfielder David Hague. Working down the left side of the box, Hague found Dombrowski about 15 yards out and Dombrowski buried the ball inside the left post for a 1-0 Timbers lead.

Moments later, Montreal answered back with a goal by second-half substitute Allen Marcina. Midfielder Ze Roberto played a ball towards the far post from the top of the arch. With a slight touch, Marcina knocked in the equalizer in the 86th minute.

The offensive action picked up in the second half as Dombrowski took a right-footed shot from the top of the box but Montreal goalkeeper Matt Jordan was able make the stop. Early in the second half, Montreal's Frederico Moojen forced Timbers goalkeeper Josh Wicks to make a diving save to his right to deny Moojen his third goal of the season.

In the 75th minute Hague nearly netted his first professional goal with a left-footed blast along the left side of the box from 12 yards out. Hague's shot low on the back post was knocked wide by Jordan on a diving effort.

The Timbers make the trip to Seattle for their next match as they face the Seattle Sounders in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday at Starfire Sports Complex at 7 p.m. Portland then travels to California to battle the Victory before returning home Saturday, June 30, to face Miami FC at PGE Park.

Notes: Hague's assist was his first professional point and assist as a Timber ... Attendance for Thursday's match was 5,266 ... The Timbers improve to a 3-1-3 all-time against Montreal and are 1-0-1 against the Impact in 2007 ... Portland plays three games next week including a U.S. Open Cup match against the Seattle Sounders ...
