Battery squares off against Atlanta Friday night at Blackbaud

Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery (4-4-3, 15 points) takes on the Atlanta Silverbacks (3-4-4, 13 points) this Friday night (June 22) at Blackbaud Stadium; gates open at 6:00 PM with kick off set for 8:00 PM. The game is being broadcast live on FOX Soccer Channel; tickets are available for $8 - $15 (971-GOAL / www.charlestonbattery.com).

Charleston split a pair of games on the road last weekend. Friday night, after coming on as a substitute in the 79th minute, Byron Alvarez netted the game's only goal to give the Battery the win at Montreal. Two days later the Battery fell at Rochester 5-2 with Alvarez and Aaron King both scoring for Charleston.

Alvarez's two-goal outing, along with an assist in the Rochester game, landed him on the USL First Division Team of the Week. Alvarez is tied with Vancouver's Eduardo Sebrango-Rodriguez for the league scoring title with six goals on the season so far

Atlanta is coming off two consecutive 0-0 draws to Seattle and the California Victory. Both games were played on the West Coast last weekend.

This is the second game of the year between Charleston and Atlanta; the Battery defeated the Silverbacks 2-0 at Blackbaud Stadium on May 26.

Friday Night Fireworks

Friday's game is presented by Queen Anne's Revenge Restaurant with a special Fireworks display immediately following the match. Fan's can enjoy $2 drafts until kick off in the Bud Light Beer Garden and the Battery Dance Team, the Bombshells will perform at half-time.

To honor the Charleston Firefighters tragically killed earlier this week the Charleston Battery players and coaches will be wearing the Charleston Fire Department patch on their uniforms Friday evening; there will also be a moment of silence observed before the game as the names of these heroic men are announced.

Two more this weekend

Saturday night the Battery travels to Cary, NC for a game versus the Carolina Railhawks (7:30 PM / REAL 1340AM). Tuesday the Battery will square off against the El Paso Patriots in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Blackbaud Stadium.

The winner of Tuesday's fixture will advance to the third round to face the current MLS champs, the Houston Dynamo.
