Norfolk Tides News Release

June 19, 2007 - Garrett Olson allowed one hit in seven innings and the Tides offense pounded out 13 hits, helping Norfolk cruise to a 10-2 win over the Charlotte Knights in front of 8,031 fans at Harbor Park Tuesday night.

For the second straight outing, Olson (5-6) was magnificent, yielding only a 4th inning solo home run to Jason Bourgeois. The 23-year-old southpaw issued two walks and struck out four, throwing 88 pitches -- 57 for strikes. He began his last start by retiring the first 17 batters he faced in a win over Buffalo.

Olson is now 2-1 with a 1.33 ERA in four starts in June, and has turned in a quality start (6-IP, 3-ER or less) in 10 of his 15 outings this year.

The Tides gave Olson plenty of runs to work with, courtesy of a trifecta of home runs. Jason Dubois slugged a solo shot in the second inning, while J.R. House drilled a two-run home run and Jon Knott added a three-run homer in a five-run third inning off of Charlotte starter Vladimir Nunez (1-9).

House finished 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks and three RBI in the contest, raising his average to a team-high .310 on the season. He has now reached base safely in 15 of his last 16 games, and is hitting .368 with three home runs and 12 RBI over that 16-game stretch.

Mike Cervenak also added three hits in the contest, while Jason Dubois added a 3rd inning single to his home run. Jon Knott's three-run home run extended his season-high hitting streak to eight games.

The three home runs for Norfolk tied a season-high, as did the ten runs scored in the contest. With the win, the Tides surpassed Charlotte in the IL South standings, and matched their season-high with their 5th three-game winning streak of the year.

Scott Podsednik doubled and scored a run in the 9th for Charlotte.

Norfolk will send right-hander Jim Johnson (2-6, 3.74) to the hill in game three of the series on Wednesday night, with Charlotte southpaw Heath Phillips (4-5, 5.86) set to take the mound for the Knights. First pitch from Harbor Park is set for 7:15 p.m.
