Braves, Chiefs Rained Out in Syracuse

June 19, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Gwinnett Stripers News Release

SYRACUSE, NY -The Richmond Braves and Syracuse Chiefs were washed out after playing one and a half innings on Tuesday night. After a short delay to start the game, the two teams got things underway, but the rain returned and officials suspended the game until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be resumed with the Chiefs coming to bat in the bottom of the second inning. Tuesday's game will be finished in its entirety but Wednesday night's game will be shortened to seven innings.

The Braves will keep the run they scored in the first inning when the game is resumed tomorrow. The Braves came out and scored an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first frame. With one out, Brent Lillibridge became the first base runner of the game, when he took a free pass from Chiefs' starter Justin James. The next batter, Brayan Pena, then singled to center to advance Lillibridge to third base. With Graham Koonce at the plate, James threw a wild pitch, which allowed Lillibridge to race home and give the Braves a 1-0 advantage.

The two teams, who had looked at the radar prior to the start of the game, went with relief pitchers in place of the scheduled starters. The probable pitchers have not been announced for the re-start of Tuesday's game and the suspension of play, likely altered the starters for Wednesday's game. Check back with www.rbraves.com for starting pitcher updates in the game notes section in the news tab.
