Mississippi Braves News Release
The Mobile BayBears handed the Mississippi Braves their sixth straight loss overall and their third loss of this series. Mobile got a run in the third before the two teams sat out a one-hour rain delay. After the delay, Mississippi tied the score at one in the fifth only to see the BayBears put the proverbial nail in the Braves' coffin with a three-run homer in the sixth. The Jacksonville Suns won their fourth straight game to pull to within one of the Braves with two games to play.
Emilio Bonaficio led off the third inning with a double to right. He moved over to third on a sac bunt by Wilkin Castillo and scored on a sac fly by Justin Upton. The rains came after 2 ½ innings with the BayBears on top, 1-0.
Mississippi came back in the fifth after Diory Hernandez got the Braves first hit of the game, a double to left-center. Clint Sammons then hit a single to center that brought Hernandez in to tie the score at one.
The BayBears went on top 4-1 in the sixth when Justin Upton and Javier Brito started the inning with walks. Chris Rahl then blasted the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for a three-run homer.
James Parr gave up one run on four hits through three innings of work before the rain delay forced him from the game. Michael Nix threw two scoreless innings before giving way to Zach Schreiber. Schreiber gave up a three-run homer in the sixth and fell to 3-2 on the year. Joe Winkelsas and Joey Devine combined to throw two scoreless innings.
Esmerling Vasquez struck out two through two innings of work before the rain delay forced him from the game. Clint Goocher gave up the game-tying run in the fifth and improved to 2-1 on the year. A.J. Shappi threw three scoreless innings. Matt Elliott threw a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the year.
Mississippi and Mobile play game four of this five-game series tomorrow night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 pm. Mississippi will send lefty Jo-Jo Reyes (7-1, 3.80) to the hill in search of his eighth win while Mobile will counter with righty Matt Green (6-2, 3.79).
Braves Bites:
Diory Hernandez went 3-4 with a run scored in the game.
Clint Sammons went 1-3 with an RBI.
