Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Montgomery, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns continued their late climb through the South Division standings Friday night with a sound 7-1 victory over the Montgomery Biscuits.

The victory combined with Mississippi's loss to Mobile moved Jacksonville within one game of the first place Braves with two first half games remaining. The Suns improved to 39-29 in the win while Montgomery fell to 35-33.

The Suns jumped on Montgomery starter Jon Barratt in the first inning as Marshall McDougall doubled home two runs with one out to open a 2-0 lead. Alberto Concepcion next singled home McDougall to extend the lead to 3-0.

Jacksonville added another run in the second inning when Barratt threw a bases loaded wild pitch to score A.J. Ellis and open a 4-0 lead. In the third inning Ellis singled home Anthony Raglani with two out to advance the lead to 5-0.

In the fourth inning Chin-Lung Hu led off with a single and Marshall McDougall later singled with one out to knock Barratt out of the game in favor of Jeremy Flanagan. After striking out Alberto Concepcion for the second out of the inning, Anthony Raglani and Juan Gonzalez both singled home runs to open a 7-0 lead.

The early Jacksonville offensive production gave starter Mike Megrew some cushion in his 13th start of the season. Megrew allowed two hits in the first inning but both runners were left in scoring position. The next two innings the Suns left-hander put the side down in order.

Montgomery got on the board in the fourth inning. Reid Brignac led off with a triple and Chris Nowak drove him home with a fielder's choice to cut Jacksonville's lead to 7-1. Megrew later induced two different double play groundballs, one ending the fourth inning and the other ending the fifth. The southpaw came back to work in the sixth and after recording the first out allowed a single and a walk before being pulled from the game for Mark Alexander. The Suns reliever walked Evan Longoria to load the bases then struck out Chris Nowak and induced a Jason Pridie groundout to end the threat.

Alexander allowed only one hit over the next two innings while Luis Gonzalez entered and put the side down in order in the ninth.

Megrew (4-5) picked up the victory, his first since May 5. Montgomery starter Jon Barratt (1-4) picked up the loss.

The Suns and Biscuits meet in the fourth game of the series Saturday at 8:05 p.m. ET. Suns RH Zach Hammes will face Biscuits LH Mike Prochaska. Fans can follow the action in Jacksonville on AM 930 The Fox or online at jaxsuns.com.
