Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY -- The Jacksonville Suns (39-29) leapt on the Montgomery Biscuits (35-33) early, scoring in each of the first four innings, and cruised to a 7-1 victory on 80s Night at Riverwalk Stadium crowd.

The win marked the Suns' fourth in a row in pursuit of a first half South Division title and sent the Biscuits to their fifth consecutive defeat.

Montgomery starter Jon Barratt (1-4) lasted only 3 1/3 innings, surrendering seven runs on nine base hits, three walks, one hit batsman and two wild pitches. Still, the damage could have been far worse for the southpaw.

In the first inning, Jacksonville scored three times but had first baseman Alberto Concepcion thrown out attempting to stretch a single into a double. In the second, the Suns loaded the bases but could push only one run. In the third, Jacksonville stranded the bases loaded after a lone tally increased the lead to 5-0.

A two-run rally in the fourth inning sent Barratt to the showers, but also ended the scoring for the visitors. Biscuits relievers Jeremy Flanagan, Brett Wayne and Kevin Lynn combined to hold the Suns scoreless the rest of the way.

Jacksonville starter Mike Megrew (4-5) needed no further support, limiting Montgomery to one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the victory.

The Biscuits' sole offense came in the fourth inning. Shortstop Reid Brignac led off with a ringing triple to right, the first of two that he would belt in the game. Two batters later, first baseman Chris Nowak plated his teammate with an RBI fielder's choice.

Of Montgomery's six hits, two apiece came from Brignac and second baseman Brooks Badeaux.

In contrast, Jacksonville compiled 14 base hits, three apiece from third baseman Marshall McDougall and second baseman Juan Gonzalez.

Having clinched a series win, the Suns look for a fourth straight victory against the Biscuits on Saturday night at 7:05. Left-hander Mike Prochaska (2-6, 5.75) will take the mound for Montgomery, opposed by Jacksonville right-hander Zach Hammes (1-3, 4.50).
