Mudcats can't come up with big hit in 6-4 loss

Carolina Mudcats News Release

Zebulon, NC- The Carolina Mudcats (26-42) failed to show late inning heroics Friday night as they fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts 6-4 at Five County Stadium.

The score was tied at one before a sixth inning bases loaded double by catcher John Purdom scored three runs to give Carolina a 4-1 lead. Trouble would soon follow in the Lookouts (29-39) seventh.

With two outs and a runner at first, Lookouts leadoff hitter Luis Bolivar hit a routine fly to Mudcats right fielder Chase Lambin who misjudged the ball for his 10th error. Lambin was making just his second appearance this season in the outfield. Mudcats reliever Carlos Martinez would lose control, walking the next batter to load the bases. Tyrell Godwin then brought two runs home as did third baseman Enrique Cruz.

Chattanooga scored five runs in the seventh to give them a 5-4 lead, all unearned. One more Lookouts run in the eighth gave them a 6-4 lead that they would not relinquish. The loss snaps a five game winning streak for the Mudcats.

Both starting pitchers would use their bats to produce runs. Lookouts starter hit a leadoff single in the third and was eventually brought home for the game's first run. Mudcats starter James Russ followed suit as he hit a fourth inning two out RBI double off the leftfield wall.

Mudcats righty Jesus Delgado (4-5, 5.88) will square off against the Lookouts' Carlos Fisher (2-1, 1.26) tomorrow night at 6:15.
