Loons Win Again
June 13, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release
Clayton Kershaw limited the Lansing Lugnuts to four hits in seven scoreless innings in the Loons' 7-3 victory Wednesday evening at Dow Diamond.
The win is the fifth in a row for Great Lakes, a new season high. The team's record improves to 32-24, the Loons' best mark since they were 10-12 on April 29.
Kershaw (7-2) has not allowed an earned run in his last three starts (20 innings) and just one in his last five starts (30 innings).
Offensively, the Loons were paced by Juan Rivera, who hit his first homerun of the season, drove home two and scored three times. Tommy Giles, Preston Mattingly and Juan Apodaca each recorded two hits.
Every Loon to bat at least once reached base, and every player except Eduardo Perez recorded at least one hit.
James Peterson drove in the Loons' first run on an RBI single in the third. Josh Bell followed with a two-run triple to make it 3-0. All three of Lansing's runs were scored in the ninth off reliever Michael Gardner.
The finale of this brief two-game series takes place tomorrow at Dow Diamond. The first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a Lance Parrish bobblehead doll, courtesy of HealthPlus of Michigan. Gates open at 6pm. Game time is 7:05pm. Left-hander Garrett White (1-3) gets his second professional start for the Loons against right-hander Kyle Ginley (0-4).
