Loons Topple Lugnuts

Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts dropped their third straight ballgame on Wednesday night as their hitting woes continued in a 7-3 loss to the Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond.
The Loons took the lead in the third inning when James Peterson delivered an RBI single into left field to make it a 1-0 game. Josh Bell followed him with a two-run triple into the left-center gap to extend the advantage to 3-0.
Great Lakes would add another run in the fourth before sealing the win in the sixth. Juan Rivera's two-run homer to right field put the Loons ahead 6-0.
The run support would be more than enough for Great Lakes's ace Clayton Kershaw (7-2), as he threw seven shutout innings and scattered four singles while fanning eight batters.
The Lugnuts' only runs of the game came in the ninth inning off of reliever Michael Gardner. Brian Pettway, Joey Metropoulos, and Sean Shoffit all had RBI hits in the inning, but a Jonathan Diaz fly out would ultimately end the game.
Wednesday's loss also marks the fourth straight game that the Lugnuts failed to score a run in the first seven innings.
Graham Godfrey (3-2) took the loss for the Lugnuts, allowing four runs in five innings of work.
Lansing (32-31) and Great Lakes (32-34) will wrap up the series Thursday night. Kyle Ginley (0-4, 6.79) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while Garrett White (1-3, 3.09) will take the hill for the Loons. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
