Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (June 13, 2007) - The Kansas City Royals have promoted Burlington Bees infielder Chris McConnell to the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the organization's high-A affiliate in the Carolina League. The Royals have also signed infielder Jesus Soto and have assigned him to the Bees active roster. Soto will join the Bees in Peoria tonight.

McConnell leaves the Bees batting .231 with a home run and 14 RBI in 57 games this year. He is tied for the team lead with 12 doubles and has 14 stolen bases in 16 attempts. Of his 57 games, he has started 41 at shortstop and 16 at second base. After going 1-4 with a double in last night's win against Peoria at Community Field, McConnell has hit safely in his last five games, going 7-17 (.412) during this stretch. McConnell was a 9th Round pick of the Royals in 2004 and came into this season ranked #27 on the Royals Top Prospect List according to Baseball America.

The Royals signed Soto after being released from the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. Soto is a switch-hitting infielder from Valencia, Venezuela and has not appeared in a game for a full-season affiliate yet this year. He signed with the Dodgers on July 5, 2003 and has played at five different levels in the Dodgers' system over the last three seasons. Last year, he spent most of the year with Ogden in the Pioneer League where he hit .309 with seven home runs and 38 RBI. He had a 12-game hitting streak during the season and was the Pioneer League Player of the Week from August 14th-20th. He also played in 22 games with Columbus in the South Atlantic League and hit .213 with a home run and 5 RBI and had two at-bats for Triple-A Las Vegas. Soto also spent most of 2005 with Ogden and hit .280 with six home runs and 28 RBI while leading the Raptors in runs scored (57) and steals (13).

Soto will meet the team in Peoria and will be in uniform tonight as the Bees and Chiefs square off at 6:30 at O'Brien Field. LH Matt Campbell (4-2, 3.47) will be on the mound as the Bees try to make it three straight wins against the Chiefs. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:10.
