Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Royce Huffman tied the game with a two-run double and Ray Chang drove home the go-ahead run with a sac fly as the Portland Beavers rallied for five runs in the seventh inning to claim a 6-5 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Monday night at PGE Park.

Craig Stansberry was 3-for-5, including his 21st double and a two-run single the kicked off the decisive seventh-inning rally. Vincent Sinisi added three hits for the Beavers, who have won their last three home games.

Stymied by starter Justin Lehr over the first six innings, the Beavers came to life in the seventh against the Tacoma bullpen after digging a 5-1 hole.

A walk and two singles loaded the bases for Stansberry, who trimmed the Beavers' deficit to 5-3 with a two-run single through the right side. Brian Myrow drew a walk to reload the bases and drive out reliever Jaime Cerda with no outs. Huffman then tied the game with a double off the base of the wall in right center, and, two batters later, Chang lifted a sac fly to right to score Myrow with the go-ahead run.

Royce Ring (3-0), who hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 17 appearances, worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win for Portland (28-35). Ring has a 0.65 ERA in 23 relief appearances with the Beavers this season. Scott Cassidy pocketed his first save of the season.

Cerda (0-3) was charged with five runs, three hits and two walks without recording an out in the seventh for the loss.

Ronnie Prettyman's two-run homer made it 5-1 in favor of the Rainiers in the top of the seventh.

Lehr worked six innings and limited the Beavers (28-35) to a run on six hits while striking out four.

Rob Johnson, who had three hits, drove in two runs with a one-out double and scored from third on a wild pitch from Portland starter Mike Thompson as the Rainiers (26-39) took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second.

Myrow cut into the lead in the third with an RBI single, which extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The series continues Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.

NOTES: Chang, who missed five games with a sprained ankle, returned to the Beavers lineup ... Portland catcher Pete Laforest was ejected by home plate umpire Jake Uhlenhopp in the top of the seventh inning ... with a chance at adding to their lead, the Beavers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth.
