New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Metairie, LA - The Pacific Coast League announced today that Zephyrs left fielder Chip Ambres was awarded the PCL Batter of the Week award after racking up 17 hits in six contests with a .586 batting average and three homers.
Ambres' highlight performance came on June 7th, when he went 5-for-5 with a double and two home runs with four RBI. During his award-winning run, the Beaumont, Texas native scored 14 runs and tallied 10 RBI while extending his hit-streak to eight games and raising his season batting average from .267 to .310. Ambres was a first-round selection in the 1998 draft by the Florida Marlins, and is in his first season with the New York Mets organization.
This is the first PCL Player of the Week award that a Zephyrs batter has won since Mike Coolbaugh took the honor in July of 2004. Zephyrs starting pitcher Philip Humber won the Pitcher of the Week award earlier this year.
