Hagerstown Suns News Release

East Lake, OH: The Hagerstown Suns defeated the Lake County Captains 5-2 in 10 innings on Sunday afternoon at Classic Park. Justin Maxwell's RBI double in the 10th scored Francisco Guzman, which proved to be the winning run.

The Suns (26-36) led the entire way as they got a 2nd inning run on a RBI groundout by Justin Maxwell and a 3rd inning run on a leadoff home run by Mike Daniel. The Captains (29-33) did chip away with a leadoff home run of their own in the 2nd inning by Matt Whitney, but Don Levinski and Aaron Jackson had the game in control setting it up for Greg Bunn in the 8th. Bunn who hadn't given up a run since mid-April had a 1-2-3 8th inning and came out for the 9th, trying to nail down his 1st save and get the Suns a spilt in East Lake. However, with the Suns leading 2-1, a leadoff triple to Roman Pena and a sac fly by Carlos Rivero and just like that the Suns had blown their 2nd save in three games. Bunn kept his cool and kept it 2-2 as we headed for extra, the 5th time the Suns had done so.

The Suns in the top of 10th poured it on with three straight hits against Neil Wagner (1-3), highlighted by a RBI double by Justin Maxwell into right field, his 40th RBI. A sac fly by Marcos Cabral made it 4-2 and a suicide squeeze put together by Mike Daniel scoring Maxwell worked to perfection as the Suns led 5-2. Bunn came out for the 10th and worked a 1-2-3 inning for the win. The Suns now have won two in a row as they look to end the first half on a high note.

Monday at Municipal Stadium, the Suns will kickoff a seven-game home stand against the Lakewood BlueClaws and Lexington Legends. First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05PM against the 'Claws. The Suns are a single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals and are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
