GreenJackets Open Home Stand With Win

Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (35-17) opened up a four game home stand with a 3-2 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers (30-22) on Tuesday night. Starter Adam Cowart recorded the win tying a career high mark with 8.1 innings pitched for the win and Augusta plated two runs in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie for the win.
Cowart (8-3) recorded his South Atlantic League leading eighth win of the season and retired the first 19 batters in a row to begin the ballgame. Cowart had his perfect game bid broken up in the seventh inning with a one-out double from Scott Cousins. Cowart allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four while not walking a batter.
Augusta broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning when Nestor Rojas connected for an RBI single with one out scoring Marcus Sanders from second. On the play right fielder Spike McDougall threw the ball into the visiting dugout allowing Mike McBryde to score from first.
Dayton Buller started the rally with a one out single then was lifted for pinch runner Sanders. McBryde was then hit by a pitch to set up Rojas.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single from Bobby Felmy scoring Sharlon Schoop from second base. Schoop reached base with a one out single then advanced to second on the two out walk issued to Ryan Rohlinger. Felmy followed with his base hit.
The Grasshoppers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh Logan Morrison connected for an RBI sac fly to left scoring Cousins from third base.
Greensboro added another run in the ninth off Cowart when Chris Coglan connected for an RBI double scoring John Raynor from second base. Raynor led off the frame with a single then moved up to second on the ground out from Cousins.
David Newton finished the ninth for Cowart to pick up his first save the year. The right-hander picked off Coglan from second base for the second out then struck out Jake Blackwood to end the game.
The GreenJackets and Grasshoppers will play the second game of their four game series Wednesday night with Augusta sending left-hander Ben Snyder (4-2, 1.53) to the hill. Greensboro will counter with lefty Graham Taylor (6-1, 2.06). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. Game Notes:
Cowart is the third pitcher to eight wins in all off Minor League Baseball.
The GreenJackets are 11-3 when playing the first game of a series in 2007.
