The Shorebirds snapped its four game losing streak Tuesday night with a 5-3 win over the BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood, NJ. Kyle Schmidt threw six strong innings for the Birds giving up one run on three hits and striking out a season high nine.
Brandon Tripp hit a two run homerun in the fourth inning giving Delmarva a 2-0 lead. Miguel Abreu hit his third homerun of the season in the fifth inning, a solo shot to put the Birds up 3-0. Gus Milner touched off his fourth homerun of the year in the sixth inning for Lakewood, and the BlueClaws added another in the seventh inning off of reliever Bruce Galloway. Delmarva scored two in the eighth inning, one on a David Cash RBI single, and one on a double steal. Bobby Andrews avoided a tag after being caught in a rundown and scored the fifth run of the night. Lakewood scored one in the ninth but Brett Bordes held on for the save.
Delmarva now has a 6-5 edge in the season series and is now 3-1 at FirstEnergy Park in 2007. RHP Josh Tamba will get the start for Delmarva and RHP Edgar Garcia goes for Lakewood.
