Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars took an early 2-1 lead Friday night against the Great Lakes Loons but didn't score after the second inning, losing 9-2 in front of 6,379 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Five different Cougars had a two-hit game, but the club's winning streak ended at three.
After the Loons scored in the first against starter John Herrera, the Cougars answered in the second versus Cody White. Jermaine Mitchell singled home Matt Sulentic, and the throw to the plate caromed into the Cougars' dugout, allowing Mike Massaro to come in for a 2-1 advantage.
The Loons tied the game in the third against Herrera, who left in the sixth with two outs and two men on base. Those runners scored against reliever Jason Fernandez, so Herrera (2-3) allowed four runs on seven hits, walked a career-high five and struck out one in the loss. Fernandez ceded a pair of tallies in the seventh, and Derrick Gordon gave up three in the ninth for the 9-2 final. White (3-4) picked up the win.
With the four-game series even, the Cougars (10-29) and Loons (16-23) play again Saturday afternoon at 5 CDT. Trevor Cahill (0-1) is scheduled to face Clayton Kershaw (3-1).
