Chiefs Drop Third Straight To Snappers

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs fell for the third straight game to the Beloit Snappers 4-2 on Friday evening at O'Brien Field .The Chiefs are now 20-19 on the season and fall 4.5 games back of the first place Snappers.

The Chiefs threatened two different times in the first three innings but continued to struggle with runners in scoring position. Wellington Castillo led the second inning off with a single and Yusuf Carter reached by an error by the shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz but Dylan Johnston would strike out to end the inning.

The newest member of the Chiefs Ryne Malone picked up his first hit in the third inning followed by a single by Josh Lansford. Castillo later walked to load the bases but Yusuf Carter grounded out to end the rally Beloit broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning when Danny Valencia connected on a solo home run to left center field on the first pitch from Chiefs starter Jake Renshaw. Johnny Woodard singled into right followed by a single by Joe Benson to give Beloit runners on the corners with no one out. Danny Santiesteban picked up a bloop single into shallow left center to score Woodard and make it 2-0. Ortiz added an infield RBI single to short for the fifth hit of the inning plating the third run.

Malone led the fifth inning off with a double to the gap in right center for his first double of the season and second hit in as many at bats. Lansford followed with his third hit of the game to score Malone to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Woodard hit his second home run of the series off Chiefs reliever Oscar Bernard in the eighth inning to push the lead to 4-1 for the Snappers. Bernard has allowed three home runs this season.

Russ Canzler drove a double down the left field line to lead off the eighth inning and came around to score on a Yusuf Carter ground out to cut the deficit to 4-2. Canzler is now second on the team in doubles with six and Carter picked up his team high 20th RBI.
