Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- Matt Liuzza drove in five runs and Nate Starner pitched five no-hit innings. That was more than enough for the Lansing Lugnuts Friday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Lansing topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 11-0. Four Lansing pitchers combined to hold Wisconsin's offense to just one hit.

Liuzza put Lansing (19-18) in front early. His two-out, three-run double in the top of the first inning gave the Lugnuts a 3-0 lead. Travis Snider lined a solo home run to left in the third and Lansing was up 4-0.

The Lugnuts added five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Raul Barron doubled in the first run. Later in the inning, he scored on a wild pitch. An RBI triple by Scott Campbell chased Rattler starting pitcher Anthony Varvaro from the game and Lansing had a 7-0 lead.

Liuzza welcomed Wisconsin reliever Justin Souza to the game with a long, two-run home run to left and the Lugnuts went in front 9-0.

Starner left the game after tossing nearly ninety pitches over his five hitless innings. Starner walked two in the game.

Edward Rodriguez came on in relief in the bottom of the sixth inning and Kuo Hui Lo broke up the no hit bid with a lead off single. Lo extended his hitting streak to eleven games with that single. But, the Rattler offense could do nothing with that single. Snider had a lot to with that. He robbed Carlos Peguero of a home run with a leaping grab of a flyball that was ticketed for the Miller High Life Home Run Porch in right.

Lansing's bats weren't done. RBI singles by Barron and Snider in the eighth gave them their final runs.

Wisconsin fell to 11-27 with the loss.

The Rattlers and Lugnuts continue their series on Saturday night. Tony Butler (0-2, 3.79) will be the starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Lansing plans on sending Zach Dials (2-3, 4.35) to the hill. Game time on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium is 6:35pm.
