Sadler's Blast Lifts Sidewinders Over Zephyrs

Tucson, AZ - SS Donnie Sadler's seventh inning home run gave the Sidewinders the late lead and RHP Chad Harville shut the door in the ninth for a 6-4 Tucson victory.

The Sidewinders brought eight hitters to the plate in the bottom of the 1st, scoring two runs on RBI singles from SS Brian Barden and LF Dee Brown. New Orleans scored a run in the top of the second on an RBI single from C Sandy Alomar Jr. to cut the lead in half.

The Zephyrs added three more in the top of the third, but the Sidewinders came back to tie it in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by RHP Casey Daigle who then scored on another double from RF Alex Romero.

RHP Juan Cruz, on a Major League rehab assignment, threw two solid innings of no-hit baseball for Tucson. He faced the minimum six batters, and struck out five. He threw 29 total pitches, 19 for strikes.

The score remained tied at four until the bottom of the seventh when Sadler stepped up to the plate. Sadler lined a 2-2 pitch over the left field wall to give the Sidewinders the 5-4 lead. PH Matt Erickson added an RBI fielder's choice to make it 6-4.

RHP Chad Harville pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 7th save of the year. RHP Mike Schultz, who threw a scoreless 7th inning, notched his fist win of the season. LHP Ryan Cullen took the loss for the Zephyrs.

The Sidewinders will face the Zephyrs for the second game of the series tomorrow night.. First pitch is at 6:30 PM. RHP Enrique Gonzalez (1-2, 4.05) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Clint Nageotte (1-1, 10.57) will start for the Zephyrs. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
