Fresno Grizzlies News Release

Fresno, CA- Fred Lewis' bases loaded two out single in the bottom of the 14th inning led the Fresno Grizzlies past the Tucson Sidewinders 5-4 on Tuesday night. Fresno's victory split the four game series between the two teams.

The Grizzlies used a total of seven pitchers in the contest that took three hours and 54 minutes to decide in front of 4,446 fans at Chukchansi Park. Starter Matt Kinney held Tucson to an earned run in six and two-thirds innings. Fresno's bullpen surrendered three runs on six hits, two walks in seven and a third innings. A total of 14 pitchers were used between both teams.

With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth, Fresno's four, five and six hitters combined for three hits and two RBIs to give the Grizzlies a 3-1 lead. The first came on left fielder Dan Ortmeier solo blast, his fourth of the season. The second came on an RBI double by Fred Lewis that scored Justin Leone.

The Grizzlies saw their lead disappear in the top of the ninth after reliever Scott Atchison surrendered an RBI single that made it 3-2. With two outs and a runner on first and third, Tucson tied the game 3-3 when second baseman Kevin Frandsen's attempt to end the inning on double play failed on an errant throw to first.

With the Grizzlies down a run in the ninth Schierholtz's two out blooper off reliever Chad Harville scored Frandsen to tie the game 4-4.

"It was test to see who had the most bullets at the end," said Grizzlies manager Dan Rohn. "I was happy with the way our boys battled back and stayed tough in the late innings."

After taking their first day off of the season tomorrow, the Grizzlies return to Chukchansi Park Thursday night to begin a four-game series with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Fresno will send right-hander Matt Palmer (2-0, 3.13 ERA) to face Sky Sox righty Marc Kaiser (0-1, 5.73 ERA).

Thursday night's game also features the return of Thirsty Thursdays, presented by 104.1 FM. All fans will get to enjoy 12oz. Sodas (all game) and 12oz. draft beers (through the end of the fifth inning) for just $1.
