Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Fresno, CA - The Tucson Sidewinders scored three runs in the third, sixth and eighth innings in a 9-5 win over the Fresno Grizzlies on Saturday night in Fresno. The win is Tucson's third straight and moves them back over the .500 mark at 8-7.
The Sidewinders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third with three doubles. Matt Morgan led off the inning with a two base hit to right center and Danny Richar plated Morgan and Rich Thompson, who had walked, with a double of his own. Jeff Salazar then blooped a double down the right field line to score Richar.
Fresno scored twice in the bottom of the third, once in the fourth and once in the fifth off Sidewinders starter Evan MacLane to take a 4-3 lead. Chad Santos doubled to right with one on and two out in the fifth to put the Grizzlies in front. The lead did not last however as the Sidewinders scored three in the sixth on a two run double by Alex Romero and a throwing error by Grizzlies shortstop Kevin Frandsen.
MacLane (1-1) was credited with his first win of the season after five innings of work. The lefty allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out three while walking one.
Chris Carter went 2-5 to extend his hitting streak to fifteen and Jamie D'Antona had three hits to up his PCL leading average to .500. Carter leads the league with 28 hits while D'Antona is second with 27.
The Sidewinders put the game out of reach on Donnie Sadler's three run pinch hit double down the left field line in the top of the eighth.
Casey Daigle and Bill Murphy pitched the final four innings for Tucson and allowed just one run on a Murphy balk in the ninth.
The Sidewinders and Grizzlies play game two of their series tomorrow afternoon at Chukchansi Park. Right-hander Enrique Gonzalez (0-1, 5.74) starts for Tucson against right-hander Tim Lincecum (2-0, 0.00) for Fresno. First pitch is at 2:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 1:50.
