Cody, Whitecaps shutout West leading Clinton

COMSTOCK PARK - Chris Cody has pitched 19.2 consecutive scoreless innings to start the season, including eight shutout innings in the opener of a four game series against Clinton to set up a 5-0 Whitecaps win over the LumberKings.
Cody allowed four hits, two walks and struck out five.
Clinton is in first place in the Midwest League Western Division with a record of 8-2 but the Whitecaps have won four in a row and have climbed back to .500 at 5-5.
West Michigan has won ten consecutive games against Clinton, dating back to July 10, 2005.
Leadoff man Gorkys Hernandez led the offense for the Whitecaps. He was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk. James Skelton also had two hits for West Michigan. He went 2-for-4 and also had an RBI.
The Whitecaps scored two runs in the second inning and three runs in the fifth.
It is the first shutout victory of the year for West Michigan. Randor Bierd pitched a perfect ninth inning to seal the win.
The LumberKings turned three double plays in the game.
