Raptors Sign Jackson For Rest Of Season And The Next

TORONTO, Canada (April 14, 2007) - The Toronto Raptors announced Saturday they have signed forward Luke Jackson to a contract for the remainder of this season and the 2007-08 campaign. Per team policy, financial details were not disclosed. Jackson joined the Raptors on a call up from the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League. He signed his first 10-day contract with Toronto on March 25 and his second 10-day April 4.

In seven games with the Raptors, Jackson is averaging 1.7 points in 5.9 minutes. He had highs of 10 points, two rebounds and two assists April 3 at Miami.

Jackson, 6-foot-7, 215 pounds, averaged 14.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 23 games with Idaho. He was shooting .486 (34-70) from three-point range. In seven contests in March, Jackson averaged 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists, while shooting .556 (45-81) from the field, .550 (11-20) from three-point land and .842 (16-19) at the foul line. He totaled a season-best 29 points in his last outing, March 17 versus Anaheim.

Jackson, 25, was a first-round selection (10th overall) by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2004 NBA Draft. He played two seasons with Cleveland, averaging 2.7 points and 1.0 rebounds in 46 appearances. He was dealt to Boston on October 13, but was released prior to the start of this season. This is Jackson's third 10-day contract in 2007. Prior to joining Toronto he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on January 8, and totaled three points, one rebound and four assists in three games.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Anaheim Arsenal (Calif.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Bakersfield Jam (Calif.), Colorado 14ers (Broomfield), Dakota Wizards (Bismarck, N.D.), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Idaho Stampede (Boise), Los Angeles D-Fenders (Calif.), Sioux Falls Skyforce (S.D.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.). Expansion teams for the 2007-08 season have already been announced in Orem, Utah, the Rio Grande Valley in South Texas, Des Moines, Iowa and Fort Wayne, Ind.

The D-League continues to develop talent from across all disciplines for the NBA's 30 teams and the entire NBA umbrella. In addition to the assignment of 24 players to D-League affiliates, there have also been 22 GATORADE Call-Ups from the D-League to the NBA this season. Additionally, every referee hired by the NBA since 2002 has worked in the D-League, while coaches, athletic trainers and front office executives are also being developed.
