Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - In between rain drops and rain delays Memphis burst out for a season-high 14 runs and 16 hits in the Redbirds 14-3 win over New Orleans.

After nearly an hour delay before the game, Memphis led 4-0 after three innings when the next rain delay hit. Rick Ankiel delivered a majority of the damage with his first home run of the season, a three-run shot to right field. After a 22-minute delay the 'Birds again jumped on New Orleans pitching, sending 10 men to the plate in the sixth inning and scoring six runs on six hits. Eight different Redbirds had at least one hit in the game with Brendan Ryan, Edgar Gonzalez and Ankiel having three hits each. Ryan Ludwick drove in three runs and Ankiel drove in a team season-high four runs. Mike DiFelice provided most of the New Orleans offense with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. DiFelice led the Z's with two hits on the night.

Mike Parisi earned the win in his Triple-A debut with five solid innings. The right-hander allowed one run, unearned, on three hits with two strikeouts. Philip Humber was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in three innings. Humber fanned six but did not come back after the rain delay between the third and fourth innings.

Memphis will send Mike Smith to the hill tomorrow to oppose New Orleans starter Jason Vargas. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
