Thurston And Bisenius Join Lynx In Buffalo

OTTAWA - Lynx infielder Brent Abernathy was traded to the Washington Nationals by the Lynx Major League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phillies. Replacing Abernathy on the Lynx roster is Joe Thurston, who has been called up from Double-A Reading.

The Lynx will also welcome pitcher Joe Bisenius, who was optioned to Ottawa from Philadelphia. Catcher Dusty Wathan has been put on the Temporarily Inactive List.

Thurston, 27, is a career .282 hitter in the Minor Leagues. He made his Major League debut with the Phillies last season, hitting .222 in 18 games. He was hitting .308 (4 for 13) for the Reading Phillies this season, with a pair of doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored in four games at second base.

Bisenius, 24, threw two shutout innings over two appearances with the Phillies this season. Last year, he went a combined 8-3 with 7 saves and a 2.25 ERA between Single-A Clearwater and Double-A Reading. He struck out 95 batters and walked only 30.

Abernathy, 29, had a hit in each of the Lynx first two games this season. He was 2 for 7 with no home runs, runs batted in or runs scored. He made one error, starting at second base in both games. He has been assigned to Triple-A Columbus.

Wathan, 33, did not appear in the Lynx first two games of the season. This is his 14th season of professional baseball and he is a career .273 hitting in the Minors.

This is the first season the Lynx are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Lynx home opener is scheduled for April 17th against the Charlotte Knights at 7:05pm.
