Jered Weaver also to rehab with Quakes

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Los Angeles Angels right-hander Jered Weaver, currently on the 15-day disabled list recovering from biceps tendonitis, will make a rehab start Friday night for the Quakes, the Angels announced today. Last season, Weaver earned some consideration for the American League Rookie of the Year award after winning his first nine MLB decisions en route to 11-2 record and a 2.56 ERA in 19 starts following his promotion from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Weaver began his professional career in a Quakes uniform during the 2005 season. He joined the team in mid-June after the Angels drafted him 12th overall in the June 2004 draft. The Northridge, CA native made seven starts with the Quakes and posted a 4-1 record with a 3.82 ERA before being promoted to Class-AA Arkansas. The Angels timetable for Weaver has him returning to the big league rotation on April 16th against the Boston Red Sox. Weaver may make one additional rehab start with the Quakes or with Salt Lake. Bartolo Colon, the Angels' opening day starter the past three seasons, is also on a rehab assignment and will start for the Quakes on Thursday night here at The Epicenter.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Advanced-A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and open their 2007 season this Thursday at 7:05 PM against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
