April 2, 2007 - California League (CalL1)
Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Los Angeles Angels right-hander Bartolo Colon, currently on the 15-day disabled list recovering from a torn rotator cuff, will start Thursday night for the Quakes, the Angels announced today. The Angels' Opening Day starter for the past three seasons, Colon encountered right shoulder inflammation in mid-April last season before landing on the DL for two months. He missed the final two months of 2006 with the rotator cuff injury. In 2005, Colon was 21-8 with a 3.48 ERA, winning the American League Cy Young Award. The Altamira, Dominican Republic native sports a career Major League record of 140-87 entering the 2007 season.

Thursday will be the second time in the past two seasons Colon has appeared in a Quakes uniform. He made a rehab start on June 1st last season at The Epicenter against Lancaster, pitching four innings against the Jethawks while yielding two hits, walking one, and striking out three. The Angels timetable for Colon has him returning to the big league rotation by the end of April or early May. Colon may make additional rehab starts with the Quakes or perhaps with Triple-A Salt Lake. Check the Quakes official website, www.rcquakes.com for the latest information.

Another Angels starting pitcher, Jered Weaver, who posted an 11-2 record as a rookie last season, will make a rehab start Friday night with the Quakes as he recovers from biceps tendonitis.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Advanced-A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and open their 2007 season this Thursday at 7:05 PM against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Great seats are still available for Colon's start on Opening Night, Weaver's Friday Night start, as well as all 2007 Quakes games. Call the box office at (909) 481-5252.
