Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Solid pitching, good defense, speed, and experience are considered essential tools for victory in baseball. To that end, the 2007 Rancho Cucamonga Quakes promise to be well-stocked. The club has completed spring training in Tempe, AZ and hit the road for Southern California, releasing a 25-man roster today that includes 15 players who have previous California League experience with the Quakes.

Promising shortstop Hainley Statia (.300 in 18 games w/ Quakes in '06), whom Baseball America ranked as the Angels' 15th best prospect, is amongst the returnees, which also include relievers Brad Beck (2.10 ERA last season in 26 Quakes appearances), Kevin Jepsen (team-high 47 appearances in '06), and Kevin Lynch (2.40 ERA with Quakes in '06), as well as starters Robert Mosebach (10-6 with Cedar Rapids prior to promotion to Quakes in '06), Francisco Rodriguez, Amelio Diaz (1.52 ERA in 4 starts w/ Quakes in '06), and Anthony Ortega. Other returning position players include catcher Ben Johnson (2nd on Quakes in '06 with 19 HR), infielders Nate Sutton (27 SB w/ Quakes in '06), Patrick Reilly (14 HR, 64 RBI w/ Quakes in '06), and Abel Nieves, and outfielders Josh LeBlanc (22 SB w/ Quakes in '06) and Andrew Toussaint. OF Anderson Rosario appeared in 14 games with the 2005 Quakes, but spent most of 2006 with Cedar Rapids, where he hit .273.

Inclusive amongst the players new to Rancho Cucamonga are OF's Jordan Renz (24 HR, 86 RBI for Cedar Rapids in '06) and speedy Bradley Coon, whose 55 stolen bases for Cedar Rapids last season led all Angels' minor leaguers. New pitchers include Brok Butcher (4-3, 3.94 ERA in Cedar Rapids in '06), Darren O'Day (2.70 ERA in 17 games w/ Cedar Rapids in '06), Timothy Mattison, Mitch Arnold, and Eric Thomas, the latter two coming off missed seasons in 2006 due to injury. Infielders Tadd Brewer (the Angels' 17th round pick in 2006), Dallas Morris, and catcher Flint Wipke (.283 with Orem in 2005) round out the roster.

In all, the 2007 Quakes 25-man roster includes 12 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders, and six outfielders. The Quakes will be led by returning manager Bobby Mitchell along with hitting coach Craig Grebeck, both in their second year with the Quakes. The field staff also includes pitching coach Ken Patterson, trainer Eric Munson, and strength coach Chris Segarra, all of whom are in their first season with the team.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes are the Advanced-A California League affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and open their 2007 season this Thursday at 7:05 PM against the Lake Elsinore Storm.
