Trenton Devils News Release

TOLEDO, OH - Four power play goals by Trenton and four-point nights from Scott Bertoli (3g, 1a) and Benoit Mondou (1g, 3a) allowed the Titans to gather a 6-3 victory over the Toledo Storm. The win - the Titans' third this year at Toledo Sports Arena - pulled them into a third place tie with the Storm.

The Titans took advantage of the first two power plays to mount a 2-0 lead in the first period. A give-and-go out of the near corner between Scott Bertoli and Benoit Mondou resulted in Bertoli beating Ervins Mustukovs through the five-hole at 4:39. Then, with Chris Blight in the box for Toledo, Jim Henkel tapped in the rebound from Jake Ortmeyer's point shot at 9:35 of the period.

Toledo cut Trenton's lead in half with 2:44 left until the first intermission as Gregg Naumenko's save on Gerry Burke's slapshot went directly to wide open Bruce Mulherin who dumped it into the open net to make it 2-1.

Bertoli and the Titans continued the power play onslaught at the beginning of the second stanza scoring three markers over a span 2:49. Skating on a 4-3 advantage, Rosario Ruggeri's slapshot ricocheted off a stick and right to the blade of Bertoli who shot the puck over a fallen Mustukovs at 2:34. Jim Henkel added another power play goal on the ensuing five-on-four at 3:49 to make the score 4-1. Trenton's flurry ended at 5:23 with an even-strength tally by Bertoli for his 28th goal that completed his first hat trick of the season and surpassed his previous career high for goals in a season.

After Logan Koopmans came into the game to relieve Mustukovs, the Storm battled back at the end of the second and pulled within two. Gerry Burke blasted home a power play goal at 17:32 and Mulherin picked up his second of the night 39 seconds later to make it just 5-3 in favor of the Titans.

Mondou helped Trenton stamp out any chance of a Toledo comeback taking a perfect centering feed at the goalmouth from Bertoli and knocking the puck into the top corner for his 24th goal of the season. The rookie forward extended his point streak to eleven games, during which he has now registered 20 points (10g, 10a).

Naumenko won his third start in a row, finishing with 29 saves. The Titans penalty kill went 7-for-8 on the night.
