Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The first pitch to be thrown from the mound at Coastal Federal Field in 2007 will come from the hand of Presidential hopeful and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. This Thursday night, April 5, Giuliani will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans home opener. The Pelicans are the advanced Class-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

"We are delighted for Mayor Giuliani to join us as we launch an exciting new era in Pelicans baseball," said President & Managing Partner of Myrtle Beach Pelicans LP, Chuck Greenberg. "The presence of a national figure of the stature of Mayor Giuliani is sure to make a very special day even more memorable."

Giuliani, an avid baseball fan, is slated to be in attendance at Yankee Stadium on Monday afternoon for the Yankees opener against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He will then travel to South Carolina to visit Myrtle Beach, where he'll meet and greet fans attending the Opening Day festivities at Coastal Federal Field on Thursday.

"We are thrilled to have Mayor Giuliani join us for Opening Day," Pelicans General Manager North Johnson said. "The Mayor has certainly distinguished himself as a leader who has been in our social conscience especially over the last six years. One of our goals will be to replace his Yankees hat with a Pelicans hat."

Excitement is swirling along the Grand Strand as the Pelicans prepare for their much-anticipated home opener. The unveiling of a new state-of-the-art, high-definition, video board beyond the left field wall, along with many other exciting upgrades and renovations to Coastal Federal Field will highlight the Opening Day experience. When the Pelicans take the field against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, they will be donning brand new uniforms complete with a new logo and enhanced colors.
