Daytona Beach Thunder News Release

DAYTONA BEACH , Fla. - Ceremonies honoring fallen Daytona Beach Thunder defensive back Javan Camon will take place on Saturday, March 31 when the World Indoor Football League returns to DBCC Public Broadcasting 15 Field at the Ocean Center to host the Augusta Spartans. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m.

Camon died after sustaining injuries in the Thunder's February 26 game against the Columbus (Ga.) Lions. His trademark number 12 jersey that he wore throughout his playing days from Pop Warner to the University of South Florida to the Thunder's first season will be officially retired by the Thunder at halftime. In addition, the number 4 jersey that he was wearing at the time of the incident will be permanently deactivated.

Over 70 members of his family from Port Charlotte, Fla , will be in attendance.

"This will be an emotional evening and a historical evening,'' said Thunder owner Antone Smothers. "Javan represented everything that was good about our sport and we will honor him both with a ceremony and an unrelentless spirit to carry on this season. We're asking for the community to show its support for the players and family by attending this game."

The Thunder (0-3) is also trying to regroup from a disappointing start that saw the team lose its first two games by a combined five points.

"It has been a trying time, but we return determined,'' said Thunder coach Leon Bright. "We need a victory for Javan, we need a victory for us, and we're going to do everything in our power to get it."

Tickets are available at the Ocean Center Box Office or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Pre-game activities begin across the street at Ocean Walk Shoppes at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to buy tickets in advance and arrive early - ample parking is available in the Ocean Center Parking Garage.
