Sandberg Not The Only Former Big League Player Coming To Beloit

Ryne Sandberg is not the only big name heading for Beloit this summer. Former Major League Catcher, Lance Parrish, will make an appearance at Pohlman Field this year as the new manager of the Great Lakes Loons. The Loons will take on the Snappers for a four game series July 21st through July 24th.

Parrish's career achievements include:

- 8 All-Star Game Appearances (1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990)

- 3-time Gold Glove Award Winner (1983, 1984, and 1985)

- World Series Ring with the Detroit Tigers (1984)

- Set American League Record for Home Runs (32) by a catcher in 1982 (since been eclipsed by Carlton Fisk and others)

During Lance's 19 year career he played for the Detroit Tigers, Philadelphia Phillies, California Angels, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburg Pirates, and the Toronto Blue Jays. Nicknamed the "Big Wheel," Parrish was teammates with former stars Mike Schmidt, Dave Winfield, Kirk Gibson, Paul Molitor, Ken Griffey Jr., and Randy Johnson.
