Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Stars and the Peoria Rivermen met for the just the third time this season at Wells Fargo Arena on a stormy Thursday night in Downtown Des Moines. Iowa was unable able to harness their road magic, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Rivermen. The loss snapped Iowa's five-game winning-streak and their seven-game points-streak.
The Iowa Stars registered the game's first goal of the game for the sixth consecutive time just before the midway mark of the first period. Rookie Forward Chris Conner spotted the Stars a 1-0 lead when he tapped in a loose puck at the Peoria goal crease at the 8:08 mark. The Michigan-native began the play in his own end and sprung Junior Lessard with an outlet pass and wound-up as the beneficiary of a loose puck laying in the crease. Iowa carried the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
With Iowa shorthanded, Forward Dan Hacker broke-up the play at the Peoria blueline and skated in on a breakaway on Peoria netminder Chris Beckford-Tseu. The Peoria goalie stopped Iowa's bid for a 2-0 lead and sent the play back-up the ice where Peoria was able to capitalize on the power-play. Mike Glumac took a cross-ice pass from Jamie Rivers at the lower left circle and fired a shot over a sliding Dan Ellis. Peoria grabbed a 2-1 lead in the closing minutes of the second period when Jon DiSalvatore fired a one-time-shot from the left-side of the offensive zone. The five-on-three power-play goal came at the 17:44 mark. These two power-play goals were the first two PPG's Iowa had allowed in 23 man-down situations.
Peoria's Ryan Ramsey sealed the win for the visiting Rivermen with his 12th goal of the season with 2:07 left in the game.
Iowa Goaltender Dan Ellis faced 26 shots in the loss. The loss snapped Ellis' winning-streak at five games. He is now 6-2 in his last eight games.
