Florida assigns newly acquired defenseman to Rochester

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled forward Rob Globke from Rochester, and have assigned defenseman Noah Welch to Rochester. The Panthers acquired Welch today in a trade that sent forward Gary Roberts from Florida to Pittsburgh.

Welch, 24, has played in 22 games for the Penguins this year registering one goal and one assist with 22 PIM. The Brighton, Massachusetts native also has appeared in 27 games for Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins registering 21 points (5-16-21) and 24 PIM.

For his career in the NHL, the six-foot-four, 212-pound blueliner has played in 27 games, all with Pittsburgh, scoring two goals with four assists. He made his NHL debut on Mar. 24 versus the NY Islanders, registering an assist and he scored his first NHL goal the following game on Mar. 26 against Montreal.

After a standout career at Harvard University, Welch played in 77 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton recording 29 points (9-20-29) and one goal in the playoffs during his rookie campaign (2005-06). In addition, he started on defense for the PlanetUSA squad at the 2006 and 2007 AHL All-Star Classics.

Welch was drafted by the Penguins in the second round (54th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.

Globke heads to the Panthers for the second time this season. He spent a seven-game stint with the Amerks' affiliate in early December and finished his brief stay with the South Florida club with an even zero rating. He has a total of 25 games of NHL experience with one goal and six penalty minutes. He has four goals and eight assists in 38 games this season with Rochester.

The Amerks hit the ice at the Blue Cross Arena on Wednesday, February 28th, as they take on the Grand Rapids Griffins. Fans will be able to take advantage of the clevermethod Business Special by turning in their business card at The Blue Cross Arena Box Office. In return, they will receive a regular 19.00 ticket to the game for $10.00. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 Networks.
