Rats to hold post-game jersey auction

ALBANY, NY - The Albany River Rats announced today the American Hockey League club will wear specially designed jerseys when they face the Syracuse Crunch Sunday, March 11 at 5 p.m. at the Times Union Center. The jerseys will be auctioned off to fans following the game with all proceeds to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The jersey auction will begin approximately 10 minutes after the game. The fan with the winning bid on each jersey will be invited on to the ice to receive it from the River Rats player who wore it during the game.

The River Rats in association with the Ronald McDonald House designed the jerseys, which feature McDonald's primary colors of red and yellow, the River Rats RR logo with Rats tail on the crest and sleeves and black and silver zigzag striping around the waist and sleeves. It's the first time in the 14-year history of the franchise the River Rats have been afforded the opportunity to wear a specialized jersey.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, Inc. provides comfort, support and respite for families of seriously ill children in a compassionate and home-like environment through the operation of the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald House Family Room in the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center. In addition, Ronald McDonald House Charities operates The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile in partnership with St. Peter's Health Care Services and also awards grants to program in the community that enhance the lives of children. The Ronald McDonald regional chapter supports a house on Lake Avenue in Albany, just blocks from the Children's Hospital at Albany Medical Center. The local chapter is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007.

"The Albany River Rats have supported the families served by Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Albany Ronald McDonald House since their inception in 1993," said Jeff Yule, executive director of the Albany Ronald McDonald House. "Each year, the players and mascot Rowdy visit the Ronald McDonald House and Family Room at Albany Medical Center, brightening the days of seriously ill children and their families. The River Rats front office and their corporate sponsors donate tickets to our families, giving them a much-needed night out and this commemorative jersey auction on March 11 marks a new chapter in our partnership. We are very thankful for the support of the River Rats organization, their fans and MVP for making this happen."

In addition to the post-game jersey auction, MVP Health Care will provide thunderstix, foam fingers and t-shirts to fans in attendance.
