Canadiens recall Andrei Kostitsyn

MONTREAL, QC - Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today that the club has recalled right-winger Andrei Kostitsyn from the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Kostitsyn, 22, has appeared in six games with the Canadiens this season. The native of Novopolotsk, Belarus has one point (0-1-1), 12 shots on goal and a minus-1 rating, while totaling four points (2-2-4) and two penalty minutes in 18-career NHL games.

The 6-foot, 202-pound forward has played 50 games with the Bulldogs this season, posting career highs in goals (21), assists (31), and points (52), with 50 penalty minutes and is tied for third in the AHL with a plus-24 rating. Kostitsyn is currently on an 11-game point streak (Jan. 20th - Feb. 19th) with nine goals, 11 assists and 20 points in that span.

In operation since 1936, the American Hockey League is the top development league for all 30 National Hockey League teams. Over 80 percent of NHL players are AHL graduates, and more than 350 AHL players were recalled to the NHL during the 2005-2006 season alone.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, February 28th at the Omaha Civic Auditorium when they battle the Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at 8:00 p.m. Fans can listen to the game on the flagship station of the Hamilton Bulldogs Hockey Network, 820 CHAM "The Legend," beginning with the Park's Furniture Pre-Game Show at 7:40 p.m. Fans can also listen or watch at www.hamiltonbulldogs.com by clicking on the 'B2 Networks' or '820 CHAM' icon on the 'Dogs website.
