Worcester Sharks News Release

A Quick Look Back

2.21.07 - Lowell Devils 3 - Worcester Sharks 0

Even a return to the Sharks lineup from leading scorer Mathieu Darche and defensively detailed Tomas Plihal couldn't lift the team past a hot goaltender. Lowell's Scott Clemmensen, with a 35-save performance, denied the Sharks a win in their final contest of an eight game road trip.

2.23.07 - Portland Pirates - Worcester Sharks

Back at home on Friday for the first time in three weeks, the Worcester Sharks fell to the Portland Pirates by a score of 5-3 in front of a solid Friday night crowd of 5,295 which included the 100,000th fan to pass through the DCU Center turnstiles in Sharks franchise history.

2.24.07 - Worcester Sharks 2 - Manchester Monarchs 1

Thomas Greiss made 32-saves leading the Sharks to an impressive 2-1 win on the road against the Manchester Monarchs on Saturday night. Graham Mink and Mike Iggulden provided the offense for Worcester as the team kept pace in the Atlantic Division standings with a tie for fourth place.

2.25.07 - Worcester Sharks 4 - Norfolk Admirals 3

Coming off a road win against Atlantic Division leading Manchester but playing without their top scorer Mathieu Darche, the Sharks found enough offense to pull out a gutsy, 4-3 home ice victory over the AHL's top team, the Norfolk Admirals.

The Sharks received timely scoring from Graham Mink, Ashton Rome, Grant Stevenson and Mike Iggulden, while Thomas Greiss was superb in goal as he turned aside 33 saves. For Greiss, it was his second win in as many nights. Team Teal was also flawless on the penalty kill shutting down the No. 2 ranked power play in the league on three different occasions. The Worcester Sharks will look to keep their winning streak alive as they host four teams in five nights this week at the DCU Center.

95 and Counting...

Sharks defenseman Garrett Stafford is five assists shy of 100 in his AHL career. Stafford currently leads all defensemen on the Sharks with 26 points (7+19=26) in 55 games played. The University of New Hampshire graduate has 34 goals and 95 assists for 129 points thus far in his four-year professional career.

Iggulden Ignites to Beat Own Record...

In just his second professional season, Sharks forward Mike Iggulden reached the 20-goal plateau this weekend for the second consecutive time. Iggulden scored in each of the Sharks three games this past weekend and also added an assist on Sunday against Norfolk. The Ontario native posted four points (3+1=4) and an even rating in the Sharks 2-1 weekend.

Valette Returns...

Worcester forward and Assistant Captain Craig Valette returned to action this weekend after missing 25 straight games due to a severed tendon in his finger. Valette last played on December 26 vs. Hartford and did not register a point. Before his injury, he was off to the best start in his professional career with 12 points (9+3=12) in just 31 games. Valette tied his point totals from the last season prior where he registered 12 points in 69 and 79 games played respectively. In 235 career AHL games, the Saskatchewan native has recorded 26 goals and 26 assists for 52 points.
