'Dogs doubled-up by Amerks

ROCHESTER, NY - The Hamilton Bulldogs dropped a 6-3 decision to the Rochester Americans on Saturday night at Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The loss marked the first time the Bulldogs were defeated by more than two goals this season and drops Hamilton's record to 14-10-0-1.

Rochester opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game when Brandon Smith notched his fifth goal of the season. Janis Sprukts earned an assist on the goal, his first of two on the night.

Mathieu Roy evened the score 1-1 for Hamilton, taking a cross-ice pass from Duncan Milroy and burying a shot past Amerks goaltender Adam Dennis. Andrei Kostitsyn also earned an assist on the goal that came at 4:28 of the first period.

The Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead when Patrick Traverse rounded out the scoring of the first frame at the 14:50 mark with his first goal of the season. With the ‘Dogs on a power play, Danny Groulx's shot from the point was deflected by Traverse into the back of the Amerks net.

With two goals in the second period, Rochester temporarily took another one-goal lead. Drew Stafford tied the score 2-2 with his seventh goal of the season just 34 seconds into the frame. David Booth then made the score 3-2 for the Americans at the 7:09 mark. The goal was Booth's third of the campaign and drove Hamilton's starting netminder Jaroslav Halak from the net in favour of Yann Danis.

At 14:05 of the middle stanza, Bulldogs forward Duncan Milroy registered his team-leading 12th goal of the season to level the score 3-3 on the power play. Kostitsyn earned his third assist of the game on the goal.

The Americans scored three-third period goals to seal the victory. With his 10th tally of the season, Mark Mancari recorded the game-winning goal, giving Rochester a 4-3 lead at the 10:35 mark. The Amerks then took a two-goal lead just 1:05 later courtesy of Stafford's second goal of the night. Martin Lojek rounded out the scoring of the game with an empty-net shorthanded goal at 18:16 of the final frame.

The Bulldogs return to action at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow night (Sunday, December 10th) when they travel to Syracuse to take on the Crunch at Onondaga County War Memorial at Oncenter.
