Phoenix RoadRunners News Release

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Jeff Kyrzakos scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal with 8:02 remaining in regulation to propel the Phoenix RoadRunners to a 4-3 win over the Utah Grizzlies before 2,515 at US Airways Center in ECHL action Tuesday.

Phoenix (10-7-0) struck for the game's first goal at 15:59 of the first period on the power play. Scott May fed a cross-ice pass to Brian Yandle along the right-wing boards and Yandle moved the puck into the slot where he found Brett Smith's stick. Smith re-directed the puck by Utah goaltender Sean Fields to give the RoadRunners a 1-0 lead. But the lead was short-lived as the Grizzlies (4-12-3) tied the game 20 seconds later at 16:19. Ryan Kinasewich collected the bouncing puck in front of the net and jammed it past RoadRunners goaltender Cody Rudkowsky to tie the score at 1-1. Matt Craig gave Utah a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission as he finished off a cross-ice pass in front of the cage from Kinasewich and buried it by Rudkowsky at 18:09 of the period.

Phoenix wasted little time in the second period to net the equalizer. Cam Paddock tipped Dusty Demianiuk's shot from the right point past Fields just 51 seconds into the period to the game at 2-2. The RoadRunners would then reclaim the lead on a power play goal from Brock Hooton at 6:51. On a two-man advantage, Hooton worked the puck down low by two Utah defensemen and tapped the puck through Fields' pads to give Phoenix a 3-2 lead.

However, this time it would be Utah's turn to strike quickly as Travis Rycroft re-directed Ed Campbell's shot from the left point at 2:33 of the third period on the power play to tie the score at 3-3. It would remain tied until Kryzakos cleaned up Todd Jackson's rebound in front of the net and lifted the puck into the upper corner of the cage at 11:58 for the game-winner.

Phoenix out-shot Utah 44-36. Rudkowsky made 33 saves to improve to 2-1-0 on the season. The RoadRunners went 2-9 on the power play while Utah was 1-8.

Notes: The win was the sixth straight at home for Phoenix, a club record...Hooton's goal was the first of his professional career...Yandle extended his scoring streak to four games with a pair of assists...The RoadRunners have yet to play a division opponent besides Utah. Phoenix is 3-1-0 in four games this season against the Grizzlies.
