Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release

The Pensacola Ice Pilots fired six first-period goals and then held on for a 6-5 victory over the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday night in Augusta, Ga.

It was the Ice Pilots second straight win on the road and third victory in total on the season. This was the third game of four straight between the two teams with the final one set for Thursday night in Augusta. Mike Ayers posted the win in goal his first of the season.

The Ice Pilots took advantage of some poor Augusta goaltending in the first period. Mike Wirll netted a goal :32 seconds into the opening frame that started the ball rolling for Pensacola. After the Lynx tied the game, the Ice Pilots tallied five straight times. Rob Rankin had a pair, while Dallas Steward and Colin Hemingway added single markers.

The six-goal first period equals the largest out burst by the Ice Pilots this season and second against the Lynx.

The Augusta Lynx marched back in the final 40 minutes with three goals in the second and a third in the final 20, but they couldn't get any closer.

Augusta out shot Pensacola 39-28 including 18-3 in the third period alone.

Nate Metcalf was plus 4, while and Rob Rankin and Nikita Korovkin were plus three. Rankin, Hemingway and Wirll all led the Ice Pilots in shots with five apiece.

The road trip continues for the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Thursday when they play the Augusta Lynx. Fans can tune into the game on Classic Country AM1620 beginning with the pre game show at 6:15 pm.
