Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - The Pensacola Ice Pilots scored six times in the first period and then hung on over the remaining 40 minutes for a 6-5 win over the Augusta Lynx Tuesday night at the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Ga.

Pensacola's Mike Wirll and Augusta's Jason Kostadine traded goals to open the scoring, but the Ice Pilots would rack up the next five markers to grab a 6-1 lead at intermission. Lynx starter Dave McKee was pulled after giving up three goals on five shots, but Brett Jaeger left the game due to injury after just 9:06 of relief, giving up two goals on eight shots. McKee returned to the net and ceded the final goal of the period, but would not allow another past the opening frame.

Instead, Augusta rallied with three goals in the second period and one in the third. Ryan Lang picked off a breakout pass in the Ice Pilots' slot and beat a surprised Mike Ayers over the right shoulder 1:38 into the second period to make it 6-2. Garrett Bembridge and Sean Blanchard recorded power play goals before the close of the middle frame to draw Augusta within two goals after 40 minutes of play.

In the third, J.B. Bittner would one-time a Jamie Johnson pass through the legs of Ayers for a 6-5 score at 5:30, setting the stage for an exciting finish.

The Lynx would pour 19 shots on Ayers in the final frame, and the Pensacola goaltender responded with several key glove saves down the stretch. With the teams skating four-on-four down the stretch and the Lynx net empty, Ayers stopped several shots in a game-ending flurry to help the Ice Pilots hang on to the win.

Augusta finished the game 2-for-10 while the Ice Pilots went 1-for-5. McKee ended up with the loss on 16 saves while Ayers finished with 34 stops in the victory.

The same two teams are back in action Thursday night at 7:35 pm, with tickets on sale now by calling (706) 724-4ICE, all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Seats are $18, $15, and $11, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military personnel.
