November 28, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today a four player trade with the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Victoria traded the ECHL playing rights of Adam Taylor and David Wrigley for siblings and Surrey, BC natives Derek and Jordan Krestanovich.

Taylor, a 6-foot-1, 200-lb Centre, has played 15 games this season and scored six points. Wrigley, a 6-foot, 200-lb Left Winger, has played 15 games this season and scored 10 points.

"We felt we needed to make a change as we strive to move forward in achieving our goals," said Dan Belisle, Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager regarding the trade decision. "The Salmon Kings have acquired two very hard working, dedicated and skilled players in Derek and Jordan."

"This is also a great opportunity for Adam to be closer to his NHL-contract team, the Florida Panthers, and move through their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans," added Belisle.

Derek Krestanovich, 23, was selected by the Washington Capitals in round 3 (#92 overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and has logged 150 games in the ECHL. He has played 14 games for the Ice Pilots and is tied for second in team scoring with 11 points (3 goals, 8 assists).

"Because Derek is familiar with the National Conference style of play, having played two seasons with the Fresno Falcons, he should easily adjust and be a leading forward on our team," said Belisle.

The 6-foot-1, 175-lb Centre began his junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kamloops Blazers in 1999-2000. From 2001-02 until 2003-04, Derek played for the Moose Jaw Warriors and finished in 2004 with the Swift Current Broncos. In 257 junior hockey games he posted 147 points (53 goals, 94 assists) in the regular season and 17 points (8 goals, 9 assists) in 33 playoff games. In two seasons with the Falcons, Derek notched 88 points and 241 penalty minutes.

His brother, Jordan Krestanovich, 25, was selected by the Colorado Avalanche in round 5 (#152 overall) in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft and played 22 games for the Avalanche between 2001 and 2004.

"We are looking forward to the pro experience and work ethic that Jordan will bring to our locker room and on the ice," said Belisle.

The 6-foot-1, 170-lb Forward began his junior career in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen in 1997-98. In 226 games with Calgary he scored 163 points (66 goals, 97 assists) in the regular season and 37 points (18 goals, 19 assists) in 58 playoff games. Jordan has also earned time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hershey Bears and Houston Aeros, in the Swedish Elite League and with Bolzano HC of the Italy league.

In his first ECHL season (2004-05), Jordan notched 68 points in 69 games with the Ice Pilots.

The Krestanovich duo is scheduled to arrive in Victoria later this week.
