Seattle scores four power-play goals in 4-3 win over Kelowna

Kelowna, BC, November 17, 2006 - Scott Jackson scored two power-play goals, including the game winner, Friday night to help the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Kelowna Rockets at Prospera Place.

Aaron Gagnon got a rebound from a Bud Holloway shot to the left of the goal and fed Jackson in the high slot.

Jackson unleashed a slap shot that beat Kelowna goalie Torrie Jung on the glove side for the winning goal.

The T-Birds improve to 8-5-1-5 in the US Division and remain three points behind the Spokane Chiefs for third place and four points behind the Tri-City Americans for second place. Seattle goalie Derek Yeomans made 25 saves on 28 shots to get the win and improve his record to 7-3-1- 3. This was the first time Yeomans faced his former team the Rockets. Yeomans was acquired in the off- season from Kelowna for defenseman Clayton Barthel.

Seattle returns home for back-to-back home games at KeyArena on the weekend. They face the Everett Silvertips on Saturday, November 18, at 7:05 p.m. and the Prince George Cougars on Sunday, November 19, at 5:05 p.m.

Seattle outshot Kelowna 13-8 in a scoreless first period.

Gagnon gave the T-Bird a 1-0 lead at 4:26 of the second period. Gagnon brought the puck off the left boards at the hash marks and skated to the high slot. He stick handled around a Rockets defender and then ripped a wrist shot that beat Jung high on the blocker side. Jackson and Jeremy Schappert had the assists on Gagnon's eighth goal of the year.

The Rockets (8-13-1-2) tied the game 1-1 on a goal by James McEwan at 9:51 of the second. Cody Almond had the only assist.

Seattle took a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 14:03 of the second. Greg Scott fed the from the right boards low to Ian McKenzie. After Scott made the pass he charged towards the crease. McKenzie made a touch pass to Lindsay Nielsen to the right of the goal and Nielsen dropped the puck to the charging Scott. Jung had gone down when the puck went to Nielsen which gave Scott the chance to beat the goalie with a backhand shot for his fourth goal of the year.

Kaspars Saulietis tied the game 2-2 at 18:33 of the second off assists from Clayton Barthel and Almond.

The Rockets outshot the T-Birds 11-10 in the second period. Seattle led 23-19 in total shots after two periods.

Jackson gave the T-Birds a 3-2 lead with a power- play goal at 5:50 of the third period. Jackson beat Jung with a slap shot just under the crossbar at the right post. Gagnon had the assist on the go-ahead goal. It was Jackson's first goal of the year.

Saulietis tied the game 3-3 for the Rockets with a power-play goal at 11:25 of the third. Almond and Luke Schenn had the assists.

Both teams had nine shots on goal in the third period.

Seattle outshot Kelowna 35-28 overall in the game.

Seattle was 4-6 on the power play in the game compared to 1-7 for the Rockets.

Jung made 31 saves on 35 shots and his record is now 1-2-1-1.
